There are often times in life that you have to make choices.
Choices that affect the rest of your life and despite what might be intuitive the more options you have you have, the more misery you are in while making your decision. It's like a tennis ball keeps going back and forth in your head measuring the pro and cons of each option.
There is great stress in what if: What if you choose this path and fail? What if you are happy with the choice you make but 10 years from now you wish you had chosen the other? What if you end up disappointing the ones you love?
So you think and seek help and research and finally you choose. The moment of clarity.
I think that when you've reached that point where you think you have weighed the options and made your decision, you should trust yourself that this decision is the best thing you could have done. Best if you not think about the other paths anymore. It's good to have a little peace until the next crossroad comes along, and it does come soon after!

We are all human!
For most of us, we go about are daily lives unfazed by what goes on outside of our own circle. Every once in a while, we read a book, we see a movie, we follow a link that a friend has passed on, we hear a sad song on the radio or catch glimpse of the evening news; suddenly we see others that are suffering and we stand dazed from all the injustice in the world, that has been created by mankind and mankind alone. We might shed a few tears, write a few lines, or even argue with some fellow colleagues; but in a day or two it fades away, we go back to the our day to day activities and worries, the exam, the paper, the deadline; and we get so caught up in it that our noble cause to help bring on world peace becomes a distant memory, lost in the corners of our minds until another heartbreaking incident hits the right chord. Ultimately in our lives we are the most important things and the saddest things always happen to us (At least that's how we regard it).
There are those who go beyond this, but as for the rest of us, that is how we are, that is how we are created,
After all , we are all just humans!!!

Ten years ago:
First day of junior high in a new home and a new school.
I was scared and nervous thinking how the hell am I supposed to make new friends...
3 years later, as we were ready to start high school we made a pact to meet again in 10 years, we picked a place and wrote our names on a piece of paper with the jobs we were planning on going into, we signed it and then each of us got a copy of that paper.
I wanted to become a film director(HUH!!!), I changed my mind within a year.
In high school we had our own thing, we were a big group of friends and we used to gang up on newcomers!! I was known as the quite one and poor Goli who sat beside me somehow got punished for everything!!(Let's just say it was never entirely her fault!:D)
2 years before our meeting date, I have lost touch with most of the girls on that list.
Tayebe the tomboy married right out of high school, she has mellowed down now.
Atoosa tied the knot this year and is already taking on her new role graciously. The pact said she'd have a child by that time (Maybe!!).
We have all taken new routes in life and have become very different people.
But at least for me, Atu and Goli the laughs and tears still prove we are best friends.
Guess I had nothing to worry about that first day!

It's packing again! (and finals!)
somehow this multiplied mess has to fit in boxes and suitcases and be transported and then 2 months from now, the unopened boxes have to be moved to a new place! I hate the packing and unpacking; but I like it at the same time too! It's funny, the once again bare walls still feel like home! I was going to post a message saying that I'm going home! I am! but in a weird way, this is home!
You can't fit a square peg in round hole and if all the holes are round you stand out, but if all the pegs and holes have different shapes assorted in a random way with no symmetrical sense, then you start feeling like you do fit in, by not fitting in!
I am going home and I'm afraid I won't be able to connect! I can feel it already, we have all changed and hopefully for the better! I guess I can be sure we will all be civil but will we be able to have what we once had?! Will I feel at home?!

So...( I'm a bit angry right now! I had this post all written out and it got wiped out!!! I'll try and write again!!)...
I think the friendship post made a lot of people think!
Sometimes you feel so sad and alone that you think there is no one to fit that description, And sometimes they are so far away that there is no way you can get the satisfaction of a bear hug, And there are times that you say or do things that ruin a good relationship forever! It's good to say you should think before you act or say stuff! But that doesn't always happen and being so reserved and conservative may close the doors to a friendship deepening and moving forward for both sides. After all, one of benefits of having friends is that you can tell them what you think and how you feel! But that has it's advantages and disadvantages!
I've put up some pix in my room that make me feel special! I have so many good friends, although they might have different names, like parents, sisters, room mates, class mates, old friends. I know sometimes I say and do things that are selfish and stupid and I have lost over it but I'd like to take this opportunity to say I feel very lucky to have known each and everyone of you and I hope I can be there whenever you need me!
I also have to mention, my little bear, Topoli who has been an exceptional listener and a great shoulder to cry on!
I know this post is a bit sketchy, school starts tomorrow and although I'm excited and I love it, I always get nervous the day before, so sorry if I'm babbling.
I guess what I meant to say is that there is always a ray of hope and there is always at least one person in the world who fits that description, even if you really want to kill them at times!

Some people live in a world of illusions!
It's as though the truth of something is so hard for them to believe that they just step into a fantasy world!
I'm not saying that we all haven't blocked out reality at some stage in our lives but I hope we've all learnt to deal with it and moved on! (or turned the situation to our own advantage!)

After the shock, I suppose the easiest way of dealing with the pain is to become angry, To blame everything and everyone, it's like while you are pointing towards others, the guilt takes a slower root to sink in. No tip-toeing around it though, the truth is I wasn't there!

Past vs. Future!

It's funny how it seems that people's lives are divided in to two sections, the first part is when you are thinking about the future, choosing a major, finding a job, getting married, buying a house, having a baby, and then the baby's future. You are always fretting about how things are going to turn out, while having an overall fantasy. And the second part is when you get oldish, when thinking about the future is not that interesting anymore, this is when people start thinking about the past. They can't stop talking about their achievements and stuff they have done. Sometimes during this time, all past times become glorified! Somehow the bad memories and wrong choices are erased from conversations, leaving all the good stuff to go on about!
It makes you wonder when is it that the present becomes important, is there any stage in life, where you are living in the moment!?
Maybe the present is when you find a balance between your past and your future, learning from one to build the other!

I had thought of a long thing to write here but I'm tired and I'd rather sleep so I'm fresh for my midterm trio starting tomorrow! So I'll just say that a few days ago I did my first hands on dissection on the heart of a sheep! And I have to say it was very interesting, there wasn't anything Icky about it and I actually enjoyed myself! Seems like this major is a very good choice for me after all! Hopefully it's enjoyable all the way!!
P.S. I also found out that there is nothing wrong with wearing pigtails on a sunny day!!!

Nourouz is finally here!
A lot has happened in the past year! Hopefully I made the better choices and I learned from my mistakes!!
But eitherway! The new year peaking around the corner and I have set my new year resolutions! Now we all do this at some point in the year and more often than not these goals change throughout the year, with some of them not making it even to the first month, some others are totally forgotten! But I guess it's good to set out some end points!
This is the first time I'm celebrating away from my mom and dad but although I miss them, I have people here that care about me, and I care about them and I'm going to celebrate with them! Those of you who aren't by my side are in my heart!
BUT,
The main idea of this post is to introduce all readers to an Iranian tradition, that older people(even by a day!) are to give younger people eidi!!!! And THAT my friends, means that I will be collecting! Summer is just around the corner and for those of you back home, may you have peace of mind until I get there! Others pay up!

Pay it Forward!

I have been meaning to write about this for a while but I haven't got around to it so here goes:
I saw this movie some time ago, it's name was "Pay it Forward"!
The general idea (which came from a little boy!) was that instead of pay back, each person would help three people (even strangers!) that really needed it-and I mean real help, help that would make a difference, help that you'd have to go through some trouble to give- even if the people who were being helped didn't want to be helped(this was part of that trouble you had to go through!!!)
and then those three would each go off and help another three, and this would spread, making the world a better place!

Although the movie had a somewhat sad ending which probably was meant to discourage people from actually picking up the idea! It's been going around in my head for a while! I kinda like this idea! The question is, would any of us be selfless enough to help complete strangers when there is nothing in it for us and even go through trouble doing so?! Think about it!

I honor of Valentine's day! Not only I feel festive and I'm wearing pink, I wanted everyone around me to do so to!
So to find out what it's really about, I googled it, here's one of the most efficient answers I got. Enjoy!!( and try and be happy and make the one's you love happy!!):

As early as the fourth century B.C., the Romans engaged in an annual young man's rite to passage to the God Lupercus. The names of the teenage women were placed in a box and drawn at random by adolescent men; thus, a man was assigned a woman companion for the duration of the year, after which another lottery was staged. After eight hundred years of this cruel practice, the early church fathers sought to end this practice... They found an answer in Valentine, a bishop who had been martyred some two hundred years earlier.
According to church tradition St. Valentine was a priest near Rome in about the year 270 A.D. At that time the Roman Emperor Claudius-II who had issued an edict forbidding marriage.
This was around when the heyday of Roman empire had almost come to an end. Lack of quality administrators led to frequent civil strife. Learning declined, taxation increased, and trade slumped to a low, precarious level. And the Gauls, Slavs, Huns, Turks and Mongolians from Northern Europe and Asian increased their pressure on the empire's boundaries. The empire was grown too large to be shielded from external aggression and internal chaos with existing forces. Thus more of capable men were required to be recruited as soldiers and officers. When Claudius became the emperor, he felt that married men were more emotionally attached to their families, and thus, will not make good soldiers. So to assure quality soldiers, he banned marriage.
Valentine, a bishop , seeing the trauma of young lovers, met them in a secret place, and joined them in the sacrament of matrimony. Claudius learned of this "friend of lovers," and had him arrested. The emperor, impressed with the young priest's dignity and conviction, attempted to convert him to the roman gods, to save him from certain execution. Valentine refused to recognize Roman Gods and even attempted to convert the emperor, knowing the consequences fully.
On February 24, 270, Valentine was executed.

While Valentine was in prison awaiting his fate, he came in contact with his jailor, Asterius. The jailor had a blind daughter. Asterius requested him to heal his daughter. Through his faith he miraculously restored the sight of Asterius' daughter. Just before his execution, he asked for a pen and paper from his jailor, and signed a farewell message to her "From Your Valentine," a phrase that lived ever after.

Valentine thus become a Patron Saint, and spiritual overseer of an annual festival. The festival involved young Romans offering women they admired, and wished to court, handwritten greetings of affection on February 14. The greeting cards acquired St.Valentine's name.

The Valentine's Day card spread with Christianity, and is now celebrated all over the world. One of the earliest card was sent in 1415 by Charles, duke of Orleans, to his wife while he was a prisoner in the Tower of London. The card is now preserved in the British Museum.

A regular consequence of leaving home and moving so far from it is getting homesick!
As it's evident in the previous post, I got a big blow a few nights ago!
The logical way of dealing with this is, that I made the choice to come here and it was the better and wiser choice for me, I do have family living close by and I'm going back in for the summer which is now only five months away! So I'm not that badly off!
But when it's your mom B-day and you aren't there for the first time! And your best friend happens to come online! You just feel alone! And you can't help it!
But in the morning when I got up, it was a brand new day with a lot more things to think about than home! ( exams, homework, labs....)
So I although I still miss home, the blow's over!
BTW thanks for the sentiments and I loved the poem!
And I'm planning on seeing davinci's code in the University screening next Wednesday!( I'll tell you how it goes!)

An important thing in life is creating a constant need to become better.
Usually you don't get anyone telling you what that is, you either use other people's experiences or go down a certain path until you make your own.
Choices in life come and go and the great responsibility here is to make the right one. Although as often stated it's ok to make mistakes(Well unless if it's a matter of life and death!)
I have made a choice and come here, I think it'll ultimately make me a better person, some agree and some don't. Not saying I wouldn't evolve if I had stayed, not saying I took a shortcut, just saying this is my choice and hopefully I can use it to become better person.
I was lucky enough to have someone give me a few pointers, although I'm not saying hearing your low points is pleasant, I'm sure I am somewhat cranky when facing them but that's natural I guess. I've heard and thought and categorized them and hopefully I'll be able to fix them!
I'm gonna try to be more open to such suggestions!

End of week #1!

First week is over!
I'll have to say that my friends were right, there was nothing to be afraid of!
Stuff are REALLY explained here! More often than not I find myself even a little bored when the prof. Seems to go on and on about a subject for 50 mins that can be totally understood in less than five! But I'm not going to be fooled! If I can use this matter to my advantage and keep a good attendance and performance, hopefully I'll be an "A" graded student all round!
Classes are mostly 50 mins here, which is much less than we are used to! (wehhhheeeeey!)
People are generally friendly! But it seems that 70% of the people at USC are obsessed with logo's!!! A Trojan, USC or frat logo placed somewhere on their clothing everyday!
Anyways, it seems like I will survive!!

By the way, the only way I seem to get a little info about my friends back in Tehran is reading their blogs!!:((

New place, all new faces, everyone smiles and greets you and you're too nerves to catch your breath! The day goes buy so fast that all you can do is race fast enough to keep pace with it! As the day comes to an end and you are walking back towards the gate, it suddenly hits you! The last blow! After all you have given up, here comes the big one! You start questioning yourself! Why the hell am I doing this! Tears follow! You try to explain but you even sound stupid to yourself!
Then he says: Having a choice is not always a good thing, since you never can make up your mind and stick to it!
So you start thinking about it;
You think you better try and make it this time, you decide to suck it up and stop focusing on the people that are going to be so far far away and think of the final score!
And right then he comes back in and tell you not to worry, that you can do it!

I don't care what other people say, I am my dad's little spoiled girl and I'm proud of it!!!
Man, I'm going to miss him!

Orientation is over, tomorrow is move-in day and classes start Monday!!! God, help me!! I'm scared!

Well it's actually true! Especially when you have to say goodbye to a bunch of amazing and somewhat crazy ( in a good way!!) people!
You plan to leave months ahead, you have all your reasons that this is the best for you, but it's when that last day comes, and everybody looks sad, and you're about to cry your eyes out that you start to question the logic behind you leaving!
I'll tell you what makes it worse! When the people you're saying goodbye too have changed you so much! They have taught you how to care because they care so much! They have changed what you thought would be a dreadful nightmare into a very sweet and enjoyable experience! And all the while they never asked for anything in return!

I'm never going to forget any of you or the time we shared, I'm going to miss you all, and I hope the same goes for you!
Take care of yourselves and each other for me! Hopefully time would go by fast enough!

A devastating crash!

It happened so close to us, but still we didn't notice till a while later!
It was all over the news! Unbelievable! Just a few streets from where we were when it happened! A military plane crashing in a 10 story high building, just a few miles away from the airport! You would think with it being that tall the pilot should have seen and avoided it! 100 people dead! 100 innocent lives taken! Mostly children sent home to avoid the dangerous pollution!
It's not just grief that hits me, it's the fact that you would think that in this day and age that humans are so proud of their technology, disasters like this shouldn't happen! You would think people responsible would try to act it out and be responsible for a change! You'd think it'll shake them up a little! Alas that hasn't happened! All they did was offer their condolences!! As if that would help anyone!
I'm angry that I can see this but I can't do anything to help! I feel small and helpless!
May God help us all!

Charlie and Chocolate factory!

Willy Wonka, Willy Wonka!!!
I saw Charlie and the Chocolate factory yesterday and it was so wonderful that although over 24 hours have passed, I still want to go to the factory!! The story was nice but the colors! I felt just like a kid and I couldn't stop smiling and singing along all day!
Johnny Depp is amazing anyway! But Tim Burton had really hit gold with this one!
If you haven't seen it yet, I do recommend not wasting another second!
BTW remember that sharing is a good thing, so if you happen to get a golden ticket, take me along!

I see this woman on the news all wrapped up and ready to go kill herself, I hear about people even around me that are ready to forget all about there life, family and friends and all they have lived for and all that lives for them, in the line of an idea they follow! I know this is a touchy subject, I'm a spiritual person myself but suicide or homicide is not justified by any religion or society rule, reasoning it to be is just fooling oneself! I really think either these people are real selfish or they just haven't thought what they are doing through. Deciding to kill others or getting killed with them in the heat of the moment can not be justified! No matter how much we practice our solitude, we effect other people's lives and although we live for ourselves making such a big decision as to kill oneself without taking into consideration what the outcome will be for others is just damn right selfish! We cannot ruin other people's lives even if our belief in what we are doing is rock solid!

Kids!

So many thoughts fly through my head lately. I want to write about all of them but somehow I can't get myself to sit down and do it!!
First off about kids! I just adore them!! We had some guests the other night and there was this cute little boy just over a year old! He couldn't talk but somehow we where able to communicate! I was in Heaven!!!
Come to think of it, I would like to have kids of my own someday! Not any time soon of course, I'm still way too young and I want to experience a lot more before then but in the long term sure as hell! Both a boy and a girl!

Anyways head out of the clouds!! I'm gonna turn the commenting back to what it was, as it is a bit too inconvenient for some friends, I'll just delete the comments I don't like personally!!

I'm really sorry to see that some people are so narrow minded that they make accusations without even knowing facts! It's sick to see some people have nothing better to do than make stories about people! This is very common in commenting and I know of a few friends of mine that have the same problem! These people are like computer worms and viruses!!
Although it's said that nobody should bother with such low types, as of this post all comments that are anonymous will be deleted without being read! Friends and people who have something important and worth reading to write please leave a name or a nickname! I apologize for the inconvenience!!

Dear friends!!( I hope nobody takes this the wrong way!!)

For the love of God and for you own good, find something to do!! Something new, something productive, something educational, something fun!! Find a new hobby, Take up a new sport, read a new book! I don't know anything!! Anything that will keep you more occupied!! Might seem like you have a little too much time on your hands!! Use you life! Live it!

Doing nothing leads to getting bored and getting bored leads to non-productive things like bugging people which leads to friction and anger which ruin the quality of life!

No offense to anyone! I thought it was a good matter to bring up!

Now I want to babble!!
Just before I start! My eyesight is now perfect and I have no aches and pains whatsoever!!

Now as for the babbling!!:
Friday was great!! We went out of town to a party! Now usually I'm the kind of person that doesn't warm up to strangers easily but these people demanded it!!
You see, My best friend was there and her friend I had seen before and about three other people (including the one the party was for),That's all the people I knew before hand! The other dozen or so where total strangers! Normally I get really bored at such gathering and I sit in a corner not talking or anything! But hey I had a great time! I never knew people could be so friendly and funny!( No offense to friends!! I meant people I don't know very well!)

Now enough with the babbling I'll get to the conclusion!:

I think I have to rethink some friendships, since there are people out there that can fulfill emotional needs without even asking for anything back, not that anyone should be so demanding of course! I'm not saying I have lost my mind and I'm looking at everything through rosy glasses( As if that could happen!!!:D) but I'm saying maybe my social circles need a shake up!!

I don't know what's wrong,
It's like I'm in a dry spell or something! My eyes have been killing me for two day now, I guess I 'll have to go see the doctor tomorrow if they still ache.
I'm a bit pissy anyways, a bit stressed out! Two many things to worry about I suppose!
And my posts seem to have become a little boring! Comments have definitely died out!
I got to come up with something different!

I think it's true that you enjoy what you know how to do well, better!!
In sports for instance, take tennis, I enjoyed watching the game but when I actually started, getting out of breath in the heat following a ball wasn't all that appealing!
But now that I'm better at it, not only I don't get out of breath that much because I'm in a better shape, I also enjoy "the ball following action"! It's reviving in a way! Not exactly in the way I feel when I paint or draw! But in a way!!:))

As I told you in the previous post, I got rid of my glasses after 12 years and although I still have pain and my vision is a bit blurred it's a whole new world!
Now while the doctor was fixing my physical eyesight problem, an terrible incident opened my eyes in a whole different way! One of my best friends had a serious brush with death on the same day of my OP! And these two days that I've seen her in the hospital I have realized something, that each day is a gift! Life is too short to dwell on the past or worry about the future!! I'm not saying we shouldn't have a plan for the future , what I'm saying is that we shouldn't let ourselves forget the moment we are in while we are doing so!
I bagged up my latest emotional thing and moved on!! No more long poems in this blog!!
I'm going to try and enjoy life day by day and I'm inviting you to do so too!
Just remember to keep some logic in it too!

Blurred vision and quite a good amount of pain which are all supposed to go away from Saurday! The night of the OP was living hell!
12 years of glasses and contacts and now I'm free!
A computer is a killer for me so I'm going to leave it at this!

My eyes are now officially hazely-yellow! And I'm not sure how I feel about that!

Well,
Summer is almost over and unfortunately (/fortunately) Uni starts again next week.
I had a very nice vacation and I learnt a lot of new things.
I learned to think of others as well as myself, I learnt that I'm not as mature as I thought I was and I learnt that feelings and emotions don't always obey logic and more often than not they kinda go their own way towards a certain goal that might be unapproachable by any logic! In other words a dead-end!
All in all I feel that it wasn't just the number defining my age that changed, hopefully I got a little wiser too!
Now I know that I can't tell my friends they are making a big mistake for following their hearts as I would do the exact same thing if I was in their situation! As they say Love is blind!
Now I know that life is not that long and I can only do it justice if I follow my dreams and goals and try to make myself a better person!
And each step counts!

Well, I said I had picked thanking my lucky stars, but I guess I'm still in the confused mood! I don't want to think about it anymore, I just want to forget about it for now, put it in that far place in my mind and just wish it away! It usually works! I don't know, guess I'm just making too much out of this!

All in all I believe my blog is turning into a diary, and I don't want that, so I think I'm going to take a break! I'm gonna clear my head and come back fresh with new ideas and thoughts! Maybe I'll leave it off till I get back home to my mom, dad and baby girl! That'll hopefully cheer me up enough to shrug this off and get to real blogging! It always helps when you are spoiled and over loved!
